THE KIN - “The question becomes how do you bring to life something that is so explosive live,” asks Thorald Koren, one-third of Interscope Recording group The Kin. “It’s like taking a picture of a full moon. It’s so big, how do you get it all in the frame?” That answer and many more will become apparent as the band opens twenty dates of the Australian leg of the Pink tour. So transformative are the band’s (Aussie natives Isaac and Thorald Koren, Shakerleg) live performances that Interscope Records signed The Kin after an executive stumbled into NYC’s famous Rockwood Music Hall one night and witnessed people watching the band with their mouths hanging open in amazement.
The band’s performances showcase not only Isaac and Thorald’s dual lead vocals and familial harmonies, but also the raw power of Shakerleg’s stick-free, bare-knuckle percussive stylings. The band has recently worked with the legendary Tony Visconti (Bowie, T-Rex); Nic Hard (The Church, The Bravery); Brent Kutzle of OneRepublic; as well as Christian Medice and Mitchy Collins who are both protegees of Pink collaborator Billy Mann. An EP by The Kin will be available in Australia at the start of their leg of the Pink tour.
YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE - Inspired by the Herman Wouk novel of the same name, Youngblood Hawke was born out of late night creative musings between longtime friends Sam Martin and Simon Katz. Exhausted by two years of touring with their former band and the general turbulence that comes with music industry success, Martin and Katz looked for a more simple, creative outlet where they could write and share music with friends and family without commercial pressures. Katz's longtime friend Tasso Smith moved to Los Angeles from Texas to join the band when he heard the first demos, and Alice Katz, who was a key part of the original songwriting sessions, joined as well. To round out the line-up they recruited drummer and friend Nik Hughes.
Youngblood Hawke captures the sound of five friends in mid-journey. It is the snapshot of a state of mind where, one mountain has been climbed, and there are more in the distance. But for right now, the view is beautiful.
