A few weeks ago the plans for Kelly Breuer’s debut EP “Smile, it’s Free” tour were revealed, where she will be heading out on the road to intimate music loving venues along the East Coast. Another Melbourne show has been added in October, along with a slight change in the support line up. With only a fortnight until this gem is available reviews have touted Breuer’s debut as “organic, simplistic and poetic” with high regards for her future endeavours with encouragement to “keep producing this intently satisfying music”.

Joining the talented line up is the inspiring Mary Webb, weaving her own version of acoustic indie song craft that compliments perfectly the warming tunes of the Kelly Breuer Trio. Also Amber Nichols will be helping us light up the Front Gallery & Bar on mild spring night in Canberra.

Kelly will kick off her tour with a show at Guthries on Friday August 31st with Mary Webb supporting. tickets are just $10, so get down there and give her an awesome sendoff!

Rufus Wainright plays at Her Majesty's Theatre in September

The incomparable Rufus Wainwright, one of the musical world's true original contemporary artists, is returning for an Australian full band tour in September 2012, following the release of his acclaimed new Mark Ronson-produced album, 'Out of the Game'.

Joining Rufus on stage as part of his band include his friends: gifted folk-jazz-soul singer and songwriter Krystle Warren – who recently completed an Australian solo tour with great panache, following her appearance here last November for Way to Blue: The Songs of Nick Drake.  Joining Krystle in the Rufus Wainwright band is Teddy Thompson, the rich-voiced and much-loved songwriter, son of the great British musical pairing of Richard and Linda Thompson.  Both Krystle and Teddy will also be alternating as the opening act for the national run of dates.

For this Australian tour, Rufus looks forward to recreating the studio experience live on stage.  It will certainly be the kind of aural feast that led Paste Magazine to write,"On Out of the Game, Wainwright does not disappoint: whirling string sections and a chorus of women exhale grief behind the brash songwriter who knows no shade of blue that eludes him."

Make sure you see Rufus Wainwright on this exciting Australian run of dates – and find out, or rediscover, why Rufus has been affectionately referred to by Elton John as "the greatest songwriter on the planet" and praised by The New York Times for his "genuine originality."

Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation - and his live show is always an absolute blast!

Acclaimed Australian songstress, Megan Washington, has been confirmed to hit the road with Rufus Wainwright for his forthcoming national tour in September.

Last month at the The Nine Network’s one-off charity concert special, Voices Reaching Out,Megan's stunning interpretation of Sometimes You Need, from Wainwright's latest album Out Of The Game, roused a staggering response from the audience.  Before long, the call was made to her management to invite her to open for his Australian shows.

Along with already confirmed support acts, Teddy Thompson and Krystle Warren, Washington will perform with Rufus Wainwright at all shows across the country,

The invitation to join the tour was warmly received by Washington's camp as she is openly one of Wainwright's biggest fans.  "I'm quite comfortable preaching that Rufus Wainwright's songwriting inspired me to begin writing my own songs.  I was 19, studying composition at the Queensland Conservatorium, and I  heard Poses.  The freedom and history on his writing made me reconsider my role as an interpreter, and therefore embark on a journey into a creator.  He is the sole reason I began to write songs, and remains one of my greatest inspirations."

The 2-time ARIA Award winner, Platinum album seller and APRA Breakthrough Songwriter is also the inaugural Vanda & Young Songwriter of The Year and recipient of numerous other industry accolades.  The full depth and breadth of Washington's talent however was best signified in the release of the critically acclaimed Insomnia EP and associated live show.  Where most artists would have pursued obvious commercial routes, ‘Insomnia’ presented a darker, more intimate side to Megan's writing.  Comfortable as a mentor onThe Voice, as she is performing songs fromInsomnia with members of the ACO - Washington is the real deal.

Having sold out her own show at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Sydney Festival earlier this year, the addition of Washington to the bill is a surprise for Rufus fans who’ve already purchased tickets and presents a show that music fans can't refuse.  These shows are the only chance to see Washington live this year, just before she heads to Europe for a handful of shows and then to record in the UK.

Do not miss this very special event.

In the category of ´cult bands` ROSE TATTOO has been at the top of the pile for years. The band can take a punch and are full of vitality; they put every kick in the face behind them and still have the energy to carry on and deliver both live and on record. Their latest album, ‘Blood Brothers’, is a tribute to the band members Peter Wells and Ian Rilen who unfortunately recently lost their lives. But it’s also a manifestation of Rock´n`Roll of the strongest form; powerful, unrelenting and wildly uncompromising. ROSE TATTOO will be bringing their balls-out live show to Sydney and Melbourne.

I AM GIANT are certainly a band living up to their name and will be bringing their pure unadulterated rock to the Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth shows. Their new album, ‘On the Horrifying Truth’, is fuelled by a youthful idealism and has an unquenchable fire in its soul.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recent Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductee and one of the greatest exponents of the electric guitar, SLASH, returns this August for an unmissable tour in support of his new album ‘Apocalyptic Love’.

On his last visit SLASH sold out all of his Australian shows in under 10 minutes. Those shows were moved up to much larger venues and promptly sold out again.

So this time around, he will come not only armed with the most gifted rock vocalist of this generation, Mr. Myles Kennedy and the band of Conspirators, but with an arena production to deliver his fabled show; just as the rock gods intended.

SLASH & Co are set to perform an all killer career spanning set from early Guns to Velvet Revolver and 2 amazing solo albums, the latest of which, Apocalyptic Love, has garnered praise from fan forums to broadsheet newspapers and all points in between. “Like some kind of rock 'n' roll kaleidoscope, the album evinces the legendary guitarist at his best from all angles. There are soft and subdued moments. There's danger. There's mayhem. There's blues. There's shred.” – Artistdirect

Like the new album, and the debut before it, the perfect rock marriage of Gibson and Marshall comes to life in SLASH’s live show.  “In front of a wall of Marshall amps Slash in top hat, leather pants and sleeveless shirt played his guitar like a man possessed racing from one side of the stage to the other” Triple M

Backwater Blues & Roots Festival is BACK!

From the 19th – 28th October music hubs will simultaneously form in Whyalla, Lobethal, Mt Gambier, Willunga, Adelaide and McLaren Vale, making South Australia the place to be for Blues and Roots  lovers throughout the country.

Now in its fifth year the festival is a fixture on Adelaide’s music calendar, with audiences being treated to the likes of ARIA Award winning artists Mia Dyson and Collard Greens and Gravy, together with Jeff Lang, The Backsliders, and Genevieve Chadwick.

Festival Manager, Andrew Dundon says audiences will hear new music from the best of Australia’s Blues and Roots scene, with many artists using the festival as a way to showcase their recently launched albums.

“Mia Dyson, Dallas Frasca, The Backsliders and The Mojo Webb Band, willall have new albums coming out between now and when the Backwater Blues and Roots Festival begins, making this the first opportunity for many to hear this new music live,” Mr Dundon said.

The Backwater Blues and Roots Festival began in 2007 with organizers hoping to fill a hole in the South Australian blues and roots festival scene, through the creation of a venue reminiscent of the 1930’s Mississippi Juke Joints.

“Our pop-up venue at the Queen’s Theatre in Adelaide will once again become a makeshift Juke Joint over the ten nights of the festival, from which the music will spread to regional venues throughout the state,” Mr Dundon said.

The Queens Theatre is the spiritual home of the Backwater Blues and Roots Festival and is the place where Adelaide’s pickpockets and prostitutes have gone for entertainment since 1841.

SOUTHERN EXPOSURE: FROM THE GARAGE TO THE STAGE

Riding high after the fantastic turnout at the acoustic show in June, Southern Exposure’s next event is turning it up in the name of rock n roll, hosting their next show 7:00pm Friday, August 10th 2012 at Reynella Youth Centre.

Presented by Music SA in partnership with the City of Onkaparinga, Carclew Youth Arts, Noarlunga Arts Centre and Southern Junction, Southern Exposure’s aim is to showcase Adelaide’s finest bands, shine a light on the south’s hidden musical talent and provide a space for young emerging bands to earn their chops.

Southern Exposure has so far played host to a slew of fantastic local acts, with Like Kites, Heston Drop and Guilt Free helping to launch the project in May 2012. The projects June show saw Adelaide songbird Georgia Germein and local acoustic acts Til The Break and Navette perform to a packed room, solidifying that live music is very much loved down south. Southern Exposure has also been a keen advocate in providing volunteer opportunities and mentorship to those interested in working live events and the music industry, with Music SA students and southern volunteers alike gaining experience behind the scenes.

Southern Exposure’s third show is gearing up to be an awesome mash up of southern punk rock, featuring punk thrashers The Lizards, local rockers Exit and dirty punks No Parking. All Southern Exposure shows are drug and alcohol free events, with entry for each show a mere $5. All money raised will go back into providing opportunities for young emerging bands in the south.

For more information on Southern Exposure or to keep up to date with upcoming gigs, contact southernexposuresa@gmail.com or like Southern Exposure SA on Facebook.
