2/23/2013

Metal fans rejoice, BLACK SABBATH are headed our way! After the announcement of Sabbath’s first Australian tour in almost 40 years failed to include an Adelaide date, there was a huge outcry. That outcry has turned to joy, as the band credited with creating heavy metal, will be playing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on May 7th. New Zealand’s SHIHAD will be opening each show on the tour.

Not only will Australian fans be treated to legendary front-man Ozzy Osbourne, but with him will be fellow original band members Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi. Drummer Bill Ward has not been included in the reunion tour, which began last November. Filling in on drums will be Tommy Clufetos, best known for playing with Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie.

2013 marks a huge year for Black Sabbath. Just a month after their long awaited return to Australia, the band will be releasing a new album, 13, their first since 1995’s Forbidden.

Do not miss this once in a lifetime chance to see one of the world’s greatest bands. Tickets are on sale now from ticketek here, with very special meet and greet options available.

Flume, in association with Future Classic, is pleased to announce the national Infinity Prism Tour this April/May.

Off the back of an incredible Hottest 100 performance (where he was both the highest-polling local artist and most-repped artist overall) and some killer Laneway Festival shows, Flume's widely-acclaimed self-titled debut peaked at the top of the Australian ARIA Album Chart, three months after it debuted at #2.  Flume was released this week in the US (via Mom+Pop) and UK/Europe (via Transgressive), scoring rave reviews from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, The Guardian and Q Magazine.

Check out the tour trailer:

Flume will be joined by fellow collaborator/Laneway touring buddy/all-round legend Chet Faker, who is himself enjoying critical acclaim and widespread popularity following his breakthrough Thinking in Textures EP.  And also this.

The 21 year-old producer was the subject of a Channel [V] documentary series, filmed during the Laneway Festival tour: The Weekend: AAA Presents 'Hello. My Name Is Flume'.  It screens tonight from 8PM on Channel [V].  Here's a teaser.

Puscifer added to Adelaide Soundwave Lineup!

Soundwave Fans in Sydney and Adelaide are in for an extra special treat as PUSCIFER join the already massive lineup!

A PUSCIFER live show leads their audience through laughter, tears and reflective enlightenment throughout one night’s performance. It’s a musically driven evening that merges technology, quirky characters and comedy in what can best be described as an anarchist dinner theatre.  Continuing to spiral out in a genuinely innovative and masterful coil Maynard makes an audience tap into themselves and discover masses of introspective depth and as The Owl Mag so aptly put it “Sonically, visually, it was a visceral mind-fuck”.

There’s certainly nobody out there like Puscifer and this is nowhere more evident than on their new EP ‘Donkey Punch The Night’ (featuring two new songs "Breathe’ and ‘Dear Brother’, two covers Queen's ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Accept's ‘Balls To The Wall’). It’s a "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am…fascinating, focused, and fiery seven-song collection and that's why this act is so essential. No one's got balls like they do!” Artist Direct

We are thrilled to announce that KATATONIA will be joining OPETH for their Australian tour this March!

Since forming in 1991, KATATONIA have become one of the most revered and cherished of all bands in the modern heavy music firmament.  With a steady stream of classic albums, Sweden’s masters of melancholy have spread their baleful gospel across the globe, refining and redefining themselves with every step into new territory.

The KATATONIA of 2013 are more potent, focused and creatively impactful than ever before. Their brand new studio album ‘Dead End Kings’ provides incontrovertible evidence of their unstoppable artistic momentum…”this isn’t just another great Metal album, it’s magnificent and one of the most unique Metal albums I’ve listened to.” – Metal Temple.

OPETH have spent over two decades steadily amassing a body of work that can only be described as epic and iconic; inventing and reinventing the rules as they go along.

OPETH’s transcendent live shows have gone down in music folklore. On their upcoming March tour fans can expect a career defining set featuring songs from across their expansive catalogue. Their previous Australian tours have seen the sold out signs hung from venues across the country months in advance and this time will be no exception.

The Frontier Touring Company announce the return of triple Grammy® award winning Californian prog-rockers Tool to Australia and New Zealand in 2013.

Taking time from recording their highly anticipated fifth studio album, vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor will be performing a series of headline shows across Australia and New Zealand this April / May.

Since the release of their debut EP Opiate more than 20 years ago, Tool have achieved remarkable critical acclaim and commercial success for both their studio releases and phenomenal live performances:

‘A symphony of distorted bliss and polyrhythmic elegance that’s as complex as it is catchy.’ - ArtistDirect

‘To know and love Tool is to know and love an intense multi-dimensional sound that reaches beyond a simple audio experience.’ - Examiner

Tool have perfected a genre-transcending sound that can be likened to fine art, interlaced with atypical time signatures, intricate drumming patterns and a resonance with a force that awakens the senses.

Beyond their groundbreaking sonic work, Tool have also come to prominence for their efforts in unifying the arts. Some of their countless contributions to the arts include the Grammy® award winning 3D album packaging for 10,000 Days, music videos that stand alone as pieces of cinematic brilliance and live shows that include elaborate lighting installations, spectacular laser displays and video displays as brilliant as the performances themselves.

The last time that Tool toured Australian shores, audiences were left entranced and enthralled by the awesome power and impact of a performance from the faultless quartet:

‘Just before they reach the song’s emotional height they take a left-turn into the extended instrumental version. It makes for one final surprise before Tool clock off for the night, no doubt having blown thousands of tiny minds in the process. I know the feeling.’ – The Vine

‘It’s these moments that separate Tool from the chasing pack, something quite intensely breathtaking to draw the crowd out of melody induced catatonia, this ability that suddenly makes hypnotic punters stand up and pay attention.’ - FasterLouder

Don’t miss the multi-sensory experience that is a performance by groundbreaking musicians Tool. With anticipation high and the promise of one of the first tastes of their much-awaited upcoming album, tickets will not last long!

Tool will play Adelaide Entertainment Centre on April 30th. For tickets head here

ROCK IN A HARD PLACE - 30 years of SA's underground ROCK!

2/5/2013

"ROCK IN A HARD PLACE" A ROCK DOCUMENTARY - is a rockumentary currently in the works, celebrating 30 years of South Australian Underground original music. 1978 – 2012

This film is a celebration and a tribute to South Australian original music, from the perspective of Adelaide's underground pub rock scene. The stories are memories told through the eyes of the musicians themselves and other local music supporters.

This film intends to acknowledge as many original SA bands as possible and to pay tribute to the DIYers who’s continuous efforts over the past 30 years to support, encourage and celebrate this particular music scene.

Its about a generation of musicians who grew up in Adelaide South Australia and those people who embraced the "do it yourself" Attitude after being Inspired as youths by the punk movement back in the late 70s. This punk attitude was often the driving force behind many teens of the times around the world to want to start bands, set up public radio stations, record labels and DIY music fanzines. Here in Adelaide it was no passing fad, after 30 years these same people are now in their 40s and 50s, still playing in bands, still volunteering at the public radio station and still churning out their local music fanzines.

The sheer longevity of the commitment and the efforts made by these people who are driven by their passion for local music has helped create something unique in Adelaide, something you wont easily find anywhere else, especially in a much bigger city. In this creative tight knit music community, South Australian musicians are in a unique position to live in a town where all local bands have the opportunity to have their music played on the radio, at no cost, with no prejudges and not just once in a blue moon but many times and often for many years.

People such as Harry Butler, (the creator of the DNA Fanzine on local music) who has documented the scene for over 30 years, Doug Thomas of Greasy Pop Records who financed the production of a vast amount of vinyl records for many Adelaide bands - To the Volunteers at Three D Radio who’s commitment to broadcast local music has surpassed any other radio station possibly in the world. Three D has become the backbone of the original music culture of Adelaide.

And to the many others who were driven by their passion of the local music scene to voluntarily work tirelessly to make things happen. It is their passion for local music that has helped create the vibrant and rich scene it is today. It is those local legends that have created our music history.

This rockumentary needs your support to go ahead. Please click here to donate funding, or get in touch with Tod here to offer support in any other way you can.

The Five Rivers Medicine Show at Gluttony - worth a look!!

2/2/2013

Picture
The Five Rivers Medicine Show is a musical event unlike any other, gathering together some of the most acclaimed and respected musicians currently working in Australia and presenting them live onstage in one big event, run by and for the musicians performing in a group collective effort – you could say its all about the music, and as about as pure as it gets.

Featuring artists as diverse as guitar wizard Chris Matthews, golden voiced songsmith Dave Mann, and the deceptively powerful Jean Proude. Rock'n'Folk'n'Rollers Ill-starred Captain, Adelaide based world music purveyor and guitarist Rafa Godoy, and Victorian singer songwriter extraordinaire Simon Phillips complete the bill in what has already proved itself to be one of the greatest, most satisfying musical events in Australia.

Bold, audacious and presented in technicolour Hi-Fi ,The Five Rivers Medicine Show is the perfect antidote to the current musical lurgy that's sweeping the Nation, so fans of really great music, suffer no more - Come and get your dose!

This year the show will be presented at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2 different venues - PigTales@Gluttony on Sat the 9th and Sun the 10th of March, and then at The Wheatsheaf Hotel on Mon the 11th.
