Appropriately enough on the eve of his first Australian tour in over a year Gotye was also voted by the public as Australia's 'Best Live Act'.
The man behind Gotye - Wally De Backer - took one night off from his tour rehearsals to attend the ARIA Awards at Sydney's Entertainment Centre. He returned home to Melbourne just last week after doing over 60 dates in iconic venues across the globe from The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and Radio City Music Hall in New York City to London's Hammersmith Apollo and Paris' iconic Le Zenith. The tour also took in less commonly visited countries like Dubai, Poland and Korea, who have also embraced Gotye this year.
His four Australian concerts will be his final gigs for this very special year. Tickets are currently on sale for all shows with the first date happening in Adelaide next Thursday night before visiting Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for one special show each over the following week. (dates and venues below).
The tour will be a celebration of a truly extraordinary year. In 2012 Making Mirrors sold nearly 2 million copies worldwide - not bad for a set of songs written and recorded at his home studio. It is well past triple platinum in Australia and has gone top 10 in 25 countries. 'Somebody That I Used To Know' - the surprise smash single - has moved 13 million units worldwide and has been the biggest selling song of the year in major markets such as the UK. It spent 8 weeks at #1 in America . Its iconic video has passed 350 million views on Youtube and woven its way into the hearts and minds of a good percentage of the planet. Wally's appeared on major TV shows like "Saturday Night Live", important festivals like Coachella but most importantly, he's emerged from all this his credibility and humanity wholly intact.
Gotye's homecoming shows over the next two weeks promise to be nothing short of spectacular with a specially assembled 10 piece band and some surprise guests. He will be ably supported on all dates by Bertie Blackman and PVT.
