Six emerging South Australian acts have been selected to take the stage with some of Australia and the world’s biggest bands at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide Concert Series in February/March.

Selected through Music SA’s Bands on Track 2014 project – a partnership with the Clipsal 500 Adelaide with support from Nova 91.9 and Mix 102.3 – the local artists will perform over three nights at the Clipsal 500 Concert Oval Stage.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said the Bands on Track initiative is a fantastic way to showcase the State’s most exciting up-and-coming bands. “Bands on Track has been extremely successful in previous years and is a great way to support and encourage the development of young South Australian music talent,” Mr Bignell said. “At last year’s Clipsal 500, there were 15,053 visitors from interstate so it gives these young artists a chance to have their music heard by a national audience.”

Bands to perform in the Clipsal 500 Adelaide Concert Series include:

Friday 28 February 2014
Jimblah and Full Tote Odds
Selected to open for Bliss N Eso,
Horrorshow and Allday

Saturday 1 March 2014
Bad//Dreems, and Echo and The
Empress

Selected to open for Empire of the
Sun
and Kimbra

Sunday 2 March 2014
Max Savage and The False Idols,
and Kaurna Cronin
Selected to open for Keith Urban,
Guy Sebastian and Boom Crash
Opera

Mr Bignell said this year’s event, which runs from 27 February until 2 March, is again expected to be a major tourism drawcard for the state following on from a stellar 2013, in which there were 286,500 attendances – one of the most successful year in the event’s history. “Total spending associated with the 2013 event was $54.8 million, with an economic benefit to the state of $36.63 million – a 7.7 percent increase on 2012. That is a phenomenal result,” Mr Bignell said.

“We would encourage our visitors to take a trip to other regions across the State while they are here for the race, to experience all we have to offer in food and wine, adventure and spectacular scenery.”

Music SA General Manager David Grice said Bands on Track was a unique opportunity for SA talent to support award winning international artists. “The acts we’ve selected will perform their music to massive crowds on a huge stage with first-class production. It’s going to be an unforgettable weekend of live and local music,” Mr Grice said.

Music SA are pleased to announce its continued partnership with the SA Motor Sport Board, with support from Nova 919 and Mix 102.3 to present Bands On Track 2013 - a showcase of great SA music over three nights as part of the Concert Series at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide in March 2013.

Daniel Randell, General Manager of Music SA today announced “We’re delighted to be partnering with Clipsal 500 Adelaide to deliver the Bands On Track project for a second year. South Australia has some of the best performers in the country, and we are excited that they have this opportunity to perform to massive crowds on a big stage with awesome production!”

BANDS ON TRACK 2013

The Bands On Track partnership provides the opportunity for great South Australian acts to earn a paid performance sharing the Clipsal 500 Concert Stage with some of the world’s biggest
bands. Six South Australian acts will be chosen to perform on the Clipsal 500 Adelaide Concert Oval Stage in 2013.

ONE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ACT

Will be selected to open for Hilltop Hoods, Drapht, ILLY and Pez on Friday 1 March

TWO SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ACTS

Will be selected to open for The Angels and Ian Moss on Saturday 2 March

THREE SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ACTS

Will be selected to open for Kiss and Motley Crue on Sunday 3 March

A group of music industry professionals have been chosen to work with Music SA to select the six SA bands. SA Bands wishing to perform can apply online from Friday 7 December through the www.bandsontrack.com.au website. Music SA advised they expect to receive quite a few submissions, and urge bands to take the time to make a professional and well thought out application. Submissions close midnight 31 December.

South Australian Motor Sport Board Chief Executive Mark Warren added “As South Australia’s largest annual ticketed sporting event, the Clipsal 500 Adelaide is also one of the State’s largest music festivals with three on circuit concerts that are free to race fans. The association with Music SA for the “Bands on Track” concert at the 2013 event further expands the role of the Clipsal 500 Adelaide as part of South Australia’s heritage as the leading festival, music, arts, and sport State and is a great initiative promoting local talent”.
