Bands playing at the fundraiser are Circle Clan, playing a fine selection of their 'electrohumanfusion' tunes and Adelaide punk rock legends The Gels, back to storm the bastion! Further musical entertainment will be provided by the very much missed Temporal Lobe, electronica pioneers VNB and newcomers Film for the Future, featuring Warwick Ing and Craig Lewis.
Dutts Cutts Managing Director and The Gels' drummer Mark Dutton is also the event auctioneer, and will be auctioning items including Big Day Out and Laneways 2013 tickets, a month-long double gig pass to Enigma Bar, garden maintenance services from Dutts Cutts, beauty services from Heart & Soul in Gawler, health services from Blue Fire Reiki, original artwork by Adelaide artist Carmen Nunez and fashion clothing and jewellery from fashionista label Glamazon Valley.
The event is family friendly, running from 2 - 8pm, with a free barbeque provided. Entry is $10, with all monies raised distributed evenly between the Mary Potter Hospice and the Cancer Council of SA. All bands, crew, venue and support staff are very kindly providing their time and skills gratis, for which we are deeply grateful.
Chris died peacefully from appendicidal cancer aged 32 years, in the Mary Potter Hospice at 8.25pm on the 2nd of August 2002, leaving a somewhat unexpected legacy - perhaps belatedly, as he was dying, Chris changed people's lives, quietly, gently and unassumingly. He made sure to spend private time with each person close to him, saying intensely personal goodbyes, with each member of 'Team Morphine' (the darkly humourous monicker adopted by the close friends who nursed him to his death) receiving their own special 'Chris gift'.
Team Morphine member Avalon Sperring said, "Chris was such a beautiful human being, and he died courageously and with surprising touches of humour - for example for his birthday in the Hospice, his beloved friend (artist) Carmen Nunez filled his hospital room with balloons, so of course we had a balloon fight. We were pussyfooting around being all wimpy and 'respectful' and Chris was slam-dunking balloons at us all. He totally won the balloon fight!
"Apart form happily raising some cash for the Hospice and Cancer Council, this occasion also offers Team Morphine a chance to reconnect with each other and I guess also to see if each of us has been true to whatever we promised Chris, whether that be as simple as living each day to the fullest, giving up terribly unhealthy lifestyles, or just 'being humann'. Chris made such an impact on folk, for example his doctor at Mary Potter never went to patients' funerals - at a hospice he would be going to a funeral daily! Dr Guy attended Chris' funeral".
Grateful thanks go to El Dorado Music, Flashpoint Events and Fowler's Live, Scorpion Entertainment and Enigma Bar, Glamazon Valley, Dutts Cutts, Heart & Soul, Blue Fire Reiki, Carmen Nunez and Live Music Adelaide, without whom, we would have a rather boring auction! And of course, the Squatters Arms, Circle Clan, VNB, The Gels, Temporal Lobe, Film for the Futre, and the wonderful crew without whom this show just would not have happened.
