Adelaide favourites The Trafalgars have dusted off their gear to complete an awesome bill with Even and The Fauves. The Trafalgars have always had plenty of potential since Triple J took notice of their debut EP Thank You Captain and their double A-side single Sit With Me/Sunnyside Drive. It promises to be a real treat and front man Rhys Bowkett sheds some light on the build up to the occasion.

It seems like a long time between drinks, what have The Trafalgars been up to?

“Not a great deal. We are all pretty busy with work and so on so the band is just a bit of fun for us nowadays. We are all great mates so we still kick around together. We couldn't knock back the opportunity to play with these two great bands though.”

Is it hard keeping the momentum going in a band when there are so many other competing priorities with your time?

“Well we treat the band as a bit of a hobby that we can come back to after ages not thinking about it which is probably not a conventional way of band operation but it fits our lifestyles. We all really enjoy playing when we do actually do it though!”

Is the band excited about these upcoming shows that you’re playing?

“Yeah we are really looking forward to it, it should be a great night.”

How have rehearsals gone?

“Surprisingly well actually. Unfortunately our regular rehearsal space at Matt's place is being renovated so we've had to practice in other rehearsal spaces which we are not too keen on due to the fact that; a) we have to carry gear around more often, and; b) they generally smell pretty shite, but the actual songs have been sounding pretty good.  It's good to rediscover old songs that you haven't played in ages.”

Is everyone a little rusty or has it come back quickly?

“It actually started off really well so we assumed it would taper off and become more crap but it's been great!”

Have you known the guys from Even and The Fauves for a while and how did they convince you to play?

“We have been mates with the Even lads for ages, they are one of the best and most under rated Aussie bands getting around so it was a no brainer when they asked us to play. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Fauves too, It's been a long time since I've seen those guys, so it should be a corker.”

Awesome line up, you must be excited about playing The Gov?

“Yeah, we haven't played there in years and it's always a great place to play and see bands.”

Given that you've had a taster does this mean we may see more of the band over the summer?

“Well, who knows. I think Matt has us booked in for his cricket team's drinks night in January! “

Any plans to record any new material?

“We actually have a album's worth of songs about three quarters recorded so we were thinking about heading to Melbourne for a long weekend to mix them and finish off a few loose ends, so you never know... it would be nice to release them, even just for our own interest, plus mixing in Melbourne is a good excuse for a lads weekend!”

Are there any tour plans beyond these dates?

“Not at this stage but we do enjoy it so we'll play it by ear. Playing with these two great bands might be a bit of a kick in the pants to get playing again!”
